Faust

Faust - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe This is a wonderful play (or rather epic poem as Goethe would prefer). The translation is not disappointing at all. I enjoyed the musicality of the lines and the precision of the words. And more importantly, I enjoyed discovering the meaning this work conveys. There is this wide struggle between good and evil, between the path that leads to heaven and the one whhich drags one to hell. This work started in a deep philosophical fashion but it ended as a romantic tragedy. I am not sure I prefer this ending. I think that there could have been a better route to take, but I will not judge yet, as I want to read the second part first to see where Faust is going!
